Selling procedure
Our select catalogue sales are between one and three days duration and are all separated into specialist areas of collecting. These range from prints, watercolours and oil paintings, to furniture and rugs and ensure that all goods offered on behalf of vendors are given due prominence within the context of the overall sale. Selling is conducted by our team of auctioneers who are amongst the most experienced in the North.
An additional selling facility of Anderson & Garland Ltd of particular interest to the legal profession or other representatives of deceased estates, or those wishing to dispose of whole house contents, is our general antiques and modern furnishings sales held every two weeks. These consist of items of affordable eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth century furniture, ceramics, glass, pictures, prints, silver, jewellery, textiles, collectors items and objects of art. These are the busiest and best in the region.
Photography
Vendors give Anderson & Garland Ltd the right to photograph and illustrate any Lot placed with them for sale and to
use such photographs and illustrations at any time at their discretion, whether or not in connection with the auction.
Illustrations used in our catalogues will be charged at cost.
Payment
Payment of sums due to vendors is normally made within 10 to 15 working days of a Town & County sale and 21 working days after a Fine Art sale. The Auctioneers act throughout as Agents only and are not responsible for any default by the Buyer. They disclaim liability for paying the vendor until they have received settlement from the Purchaser.
Warehousing
The Auctioneers exempt themselves from any liability to goods delivered to their salerooms without sufficient sale instructions, and reserve the right to make a warehousing charge in this respect. A similar warehousing charge will be applicable for goods left on their premises 7 days after they have requested the Vendor to remove them. This
charge will be levied at the rate of £1 per item per day. Goods will not be released until warehouse charges are paid in full.
Withdrawn Items
Anderson & Garland Ltd reserve the right to charge a withdrawal fee of 10% (plus VAT) of the lower estimate for any item/s removed from any sale by the vendor if the item/s have been catalogued and/or a catalogue has been published and marketing undertaken. Any item/s withdrawn from the sale must be collected promptly and will not
be released until the above fee has been paid in full. Failure to collect in good time will incur further storage charges of £1 per lot per day, recoverable by the sale of the item/s if they remain uncollected for a period of more than two months.
Unsold Items
If a reserved item is unsold it will be re-offered (sometimes within 7 days and without notice) and the reserve will be lowered by 30% each time of entry. Lots will be re-offered until sold or collected. Where in our opinion an item is unsaleable you must collect such items from the saleroom within 7 days on being so informed. Otherwise, storage charges will be incurred. If goods remain with us and we have no contrary written advice of your reasonable
intentions, the items will be moved to storage and reasonable labour charges levied and storage at the rate of £1 (plus VAT) per lot per day thereafter. If an unreserved item is un-saleable by virtue of failing to attract a bid we will have absolute discretion to dispose of that item and charge for the service.
