A fantastic opportunity to purchase a unique original portrait of Fra' Matthew Festing, 79th Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, painted by his brother Andrew Festing, with all the profits going to The Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, Palestine.

An auction of jewellery, silver, coins, and watches, antique and new, from an Edwardian lady's 9ct gold cigarette case, to a sapphire, ruby, and diamond "day-to-night" ring, watches include a lady's Art Deco diamond encrusted evening watch, to a collection of gentlemens' mid-Century modern and contemporary Seiko wristwatches, and gold cased hunter pocket watches, while silver items allow us to romanticise a time past - through the objects left behind, such as a Georgian sugar basket, Victorian silver three piece tea set, and even a Victorian soap dish.

Our Art auction this month features a collection of local coastal watercolour landscapes by renowned artist Thomas Swift Hutton, with views of Whitby, Staithes and other nearby harbours. We also have the remainder of the single owner collection of George Sherwood Hunter up for auction with many lovely works still available.

Other notable local artists are also included, with works by Alan Reed, Mary Ann Rogers, John Bellany, Frank Henry Mason, John Falconar Slater and Walter Holmes.

Some of our highlights are to include: a Victorian rosewood inverted breakfront sideboard. a George Smith three-piece suite; a 17^th Century wooden cased door and lock; and an impressive single owner collection of Royal Doulton figurines.

Modern art to include a collection of works by Brian Shields – known as “Braaq”, including a winter view of Kinder Street in Liverpool, and a delightful view of a funfair at the beach, a still-life by Kenneth Rowntree, a collage by the inventor of Pop Art; Richard Hamilton, and a Post-War mixed media view of the “Tin Mines, Redruth, Cornwall” by John Piper, dated 1949 and sold through The Stone Gallery.  

Also featured in our highlights are a stunning Sally Tuffin Moorcroft vase, an impressive teak sideboard by Ward and Austion for N Lees and Son, and an ash TS series dining table by David Colwell, with four C3 chairs.

The Fine Art auction has a selection of important and interesting works, including a collection of paintings by Isa and Robert Jobling, notably a self portrait by Isa, under her maiden name of Isabella Thompson, the work which depicts Isa in profile and from behind, her hair in a chignon, was once displayed at the Laing Gallery, another work by Robert Jobling in the auction is a large scale view of shipping in North Shields harbour. Other prominent works in the auction include a landscape view by Eugène Louis Boudin, a fabulous 16^th Century portrait of a little boy in a blackwork embroidered gown; attributed to Wybrand Simonsz. de Geest the Elder, and a number of paintings and drawings by local artist Norman Cornish.

The Asian Art Auction always catches the eye, and this is one's no different. We offer a selection of Chinese and Japanese ceramics, carved jade and other stone, and furniture. The sale suits those with a collector's eye, as well as interior design. With items to suit all budgets, it's a great auction for all.
