Lot details
Rolex: a gentleman's steel cased wristwatch, the black baton dial signed 'Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Just', with milled bezel, black leather strap. NB The vendor's late father, George Blackler, was chief make-up artist for J. Arthur Rank for nearly thirty years at the Studio. During the making of the film 'Goodbye Mr. Chips', starring Peter O'toole and Petula Clark, Mr. Blackler lost/broke his watch. It was custom for the stars to purchase a small gift for the principal technicians (make-up and hairdressers) at that time. Petula Clark is believed to have kindly bought him a Rolex watch as a replacement on conclusion of the film.
