Michel Nedjar ''Poupée'' c.1996 Sculpture in mixed media - rag, paste, dye, wax, etc 69cm high In unglazed box frame 117 x 68.5 x 19cm See illustration Biography: Born in Soisy-sous Montmorency (Val d' Oise), France, 1947. Interested in fabric from an early age, his father being a tailor, and he an apprentice tailor. He gave up his work to travel in India and Mexico where he discovered the magical kachina dolls and mummies. In 1975 during a period of extreme depression, he began creating sculptural dolls out of scraps of fabric, string, wax and feathers. Jean Dubuffet was an early collector of these dolls and introduced Nedjar to Art Brut. In 1998 he began creating a series of ''Travel Dolls'' which draw upon the Artist's love of global travel and discovery. Artist's Resale Rights may apply, please refer to our Terms & Conditions.
