Michel Nedjar ''Poupée'' c.1990 Sculpture in mixed media - rag, paste, dye, wax, etc 51cm high In unglazed box frame 83 x 48.5 x 18cm Biography: Born in Soisy-sous Montmorency (Val d' Oise), France, 1947. Interested in fabric from an early age, his father being a tailor, and he an apprentice tailor. He gave up his work to travel in India and Mexico where he discovered the magical kachina dolls and mummies. In 1975 during a period of extreme depression, he began creating sculptural dolls out of scraps of fabric, string, wax and feathers. Jean Dubuffet was an early collector of these dolls and introduced Nedjar to Art Brut.
