Sold for £3,500

Lot details
William Gilbert (W.G.) Grace (1848-1915) interest: a 19th Century Wisden cricket bat, bearing inscription ''G. Strachan from W.G. Grace, June 22/78, W.E. Lathan from G. Strachan, Augst 21/88'', 88cms (34 1/2in.) long. Note: This bat is believed to have been used by W.G. Grace during a three day match of Surrey vs Gloucestershire and gifted by him to George Strachan (1850-1901), as opposing Captains post match. Strachan was previously a team mate of Grace. Literature: this lot is accompanied with a letter from The Marylebone Cricket Club stating that they ''feel confident to say that it is entirely likely that the bat was indeed, as stated, a gift from W.G.''.
