Property of a Gentleman: a fine Kangxi period 'cafe au lait' ground bowl, with everted rim, the waisted body raised on a foot rim, decorated with a pine tree, flowering prunus and Heavenly Bamboo, emerging from rock work, being a version of ''The Three Friends of Winter'', with carved hardwood stand and in fitted silk box, unmarked, 7in. (18cms) wide. NB Heavenly Bamboo, ''Tianzhu'' in Chinese, is often substituted for bamboo in this context and is associated with longevity, particularly birthdays. PROVENANCE: Collection of a titled British diplomat serving in Singapore and Hong Kong from 1864-1893, thence by descent, sold by direction of his family.
