Albert Edward Aldis (British/New Zealand 1865-1921) ''SUBLIME POINT AND JAMIESON VALLEY FROM THE 'RESERVE' LEURA BLUE MOUNTAINS, NEW SOUTH WALES'' signed; with inscription verso watercolour 22.5 x 40cms; 9 x 15 3/4in. NB Aldis was born at Kentish Town, London and emigrated to New Zealand in 1886. He lived and painted in both New Zealand and Australia, spending the last part of his life in the Blue Mountains NSW. He died in Manly, Sydney. His date of birth is widely reported as 1870, however family correspondence gives his birthdate as 31 January 1865. His age as given in the 1871 and 1881 British Censuses confirm this date. See illustration
