As the year draws to a close and the Anderson and Garland team head off for a well-deserved Christmas break, I’d like to take the opportunity to reflect on 2021 and all that we’ve achieved together.
Despite the continued global pandemic, over the past 12 months we’ve held over 50 successful specialist auctions and achieved many great results for both vendors and buyers alike. Selected highlights include: a stunning 5.33ct Diamond ring, consigned by a vendor in County Durham, sold for over £65,000 including premium, in the December Country House & Fine Interiors Auction; A Victor Pasmore painted construction, consigned by a vendor from Newcastle, sold in The Modern Auction in July for over £60,000 including premium; and a copy of Amazing Fantasy No.15, introducing Spiderman, personally signed and inscribed by co-creator Stan Lee, sold as part of The Ian Penman Collection for £30,000. This collection, together with Comic books from other estates and private collections, achieved an overall total of over £500,000 across two sales held in late November and early December.
We’ve continued to embrace digitalization and this year held our first timed online auction. This format allows our bidders flexibility and has proved extremely successful and popular, attracting interest from across the globe. Timed auctions are an area we’ll continue to expand in 2022, so keep your eyes peeled for more of those in the new year.
As if that all of this wasn’t enough already, we’ve welcomed five additional members of staff to the team; and we launched our sister company A&G Land & Property Auctions, under the stewardship of well-respected local property expert Gareth Jones.
All in all, 2021 has been a great success, but we couldn’t have done it without you. I’d like to thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming you again in 2022.
