A distinguished selection of 19th century and earlier paintings will be offered in this upcoming Fine Art Auction, featuring important works by leading European and British artists. A major highlight is Village Scene with Cattle Drinking by Eugène Louis Boudin, signed and dated 1851, from the collection of George Sherwood Hunter. Boudin, a key figure in 19th-century French painting,is also noted for introducing the young Claude Monet to painting en plein air. From the same collection comes Elizabeth Adela Forbes’s Gathering Flowers in a Wild Meadow, a refined Impressionist composition depicting a woman and child against a village prospect; other notable works include Frederick Richard Lee’s A Distant View of Dunbar Castle and Walter Hunt’s characterful rural scene A Bay Horse Shares a Farmyard Meal.
