Sir Hubert von Herkomer, RA (1849-1914) ''HEAD OF AN OLD MAN'' signed with initials and date 95 in the plate herkomertype (monotype), published c.1895 23 x 18cms; 9 x 7in. (plate size). NB Herkomer was a pioneer developing the technical aspects of print making and devised the above method of producing multiple impressions of monotype images. The process, essentially photo mechanical, has been termed herkomertype and involved fixing the original monotype image permanently by heliogravure onto a copper plate so that a small edition could be printed. The exact details of this process died with the Artist. Alternative titles for this image are ''Head of an Arab'' and ''Fisherman''.
