PROVENANCE The collection of Lord Walton of Detchant; Purchased from The Stone Gallery, Newcastle; NB John Walton, Baron Walton of Detchant (1922-2016) rose from humble beginnings to become one of the World's leading neurologists and a member of the House of Lords. He was a near contemporary of Norman Cornish, and they lived near one another in Spennymoor during their boyhood. Lord Walton was an admirer of Cornish's work and in adult life they remained in contact despite their quite different career paths.
