The Comic Auction features amazing rarities and outstanding quality in a vast collection of the most noteworthy comic books to hit the auction block.
John Anderson, auctioneer at Anderson and Garland, who has been cataloguing comics for over 40 years, is ecstatic about this sale. He said: “This is the biggest, best, most varied selection of comic books I’ve ever seen!”
The auction features some of the most collectable comic book characters, and many high-value American comics. Spiderman is the most collectable comic character around, and X-men is the most popular new comic worldwide, and our auction comprises many No.1s of the most sought-after comic books.
A collection of comic books amassed over 40 years is included in the auction on behalf of a widow of a comics dealer from Leicester. His personal collection includes a number of the most valuable comics in the world.
Anderson and Garland auctioneers continued to consign for their comic book auction and the rare comics continued to come in.
A secondary collection that was sent to auction from London includes five early Marvel comics! We believe these were discovered in a charity shop, as they are somewhat tatty and it’s very possible nobody else recognised them for what they were.
The auction gained so much traction that we now have around 160,000 comic books and have had to split the original two-day sale into a four-day sale, with the second instalment TBC. The first auction comprising over 1,000 lots is set to commence on Thursday, 25 July and continue through to Friday.
A number of the most valuable comic books to go under the hammer are included in this auction.
This includes Amazing Fantasy No.15, first appearance of Spiderman, the third most valuable comic in the universe and the most valuable Marvel comic. A mint condition copy of this recently sold for £1.1million!
The auction comprises of many valuable American comics and key comics with first appearances of major characters. There is also a great collection of DC comics from a collector in Morpeth who had them since he was a boy in the 1960s.
There are many British comics, girls comics, Judy No.1, Beano and Dandy, Tammy, School Friend, Diana, Mandy, Batman, Ironman, Superman, science fiction, romance, horror, funny animal comics, Deadpool comic books, adult comics with rather saucy storylines, graphic novels and so much more.
Our auctioneers catalogued so many comic books that during the catalogue process, we kept calling out a random comic book and then later discovering that we had it! There are very few comics that are not included in this auction.
