Beatles '65 (Capitol Records, US, 1964), the American-only album signed by all four members of The Beatles, with an exceptional and well-documented provenance connecting it directly to the filming of Help! in the Bahamas.

Beatles '65 was released in the United States and Canada on 15th December 1964, issued by Capitol Records as the North American counterpart to Beatles for Sale, and was never issued in the United Kingdom. The album topped the Billboard chart for nine consecutive weeks from January 1965 and was later certified triple platinum in the US. Band-signed copies of any Beatles album are exceptionally scarce, and this scarcity is more pronounced still among American-only releases. Only two signed copies of Beatles '65 are known to survive.
This copy was acquired in America by Angela Bass (née Bourton), a BOAC air stewardess. In February 1965, The Beatles flew to the Bahamas to film location scenes for Help!, spending fifteen consecutive days in Nassau, on Balmoral Island and at the Nassau Beach Hotel. Their management chartered a BOAC Boeing 707 for the journey, nicknamed by those aboard the "Beatles Bahamas Express". Angela Bass was a stewardess on the return flight to London on 10th March 1965, landing at 7.05am the following morning, during which she spent considerable time in conversation with all four Beatles and had them sign her personal copy of this album, as well as the flight's first-class menu.
Her son, the vendor, recalls his mother's account of the flight:
"Mum was an air stewardess in the golden age of flying in the 1960s. She flew with BOAC, the precursor to British Airways, and was lucky enough to be the stewardess on the flight bringing the Beatles back from filming Help! in the Bahamas, the one they called the Beatles Bahamas Express. As was her way, she made the most of the experience and spent time talking to all of them. She particularly enjoyed chatting with George Harrison, who she said she talked to for hours, and always said how easy he was to get on with. Mum is no longer with us, which is exactly why we still have this album; it's stayed in the family ever since, and between the three of us brothers, we felt it was time to pass it on to a collector who would really value it."

The sleeve opens out fully, allowing all four autographs to be displayed to good effect. There is tape damage to the border of both the front and reverse, and the spine is split along the bottom edge, running approximately halfway up.

TELEPHONE: Telephone bids are only available for lots estimated at over £250. Lots which are bought for less than £250 via telephone bidding will incur a £10 (plus VAT) per lot charge. We only accept telephone bidding registrations up to the day prior to the lot in question going under the hammer. At the point of registration all new bidders will be required to submit proof of identification and address. This can be either a current driver's licence or ID card showing the registered address, or a passport together with a recent utility bill bearing the registered address which can be emailed to a.orgill@andersonandgarland.com. Only when this identification is received can the registration process be completed and your telephone line will then be secured for you. As the number of telephone lines are limited, early booking is recommended. (We also recommend that you leave an “emergency cover bid" in case we are unable to reach you by telephone). Highlights include: A rare and exceptionally well-documented item headlines: a signed copy of the Beatles' American-only album Beatles '65, one of only two such copies known to survive, carrying an estimate of £20,000-40,000. The album's history is tied directly to the filming of the band's second feature film, Help!, in the Bahamas in February 1965.
