An early 20th Century large mirror back builder's half ship model in case, named 'SS Lady Brenda', the timber hull painted black above the waterline and pink below, with plated metal mounts including four bladed propeller, anchor, cargo winches, ventilators, etc., with accommodation ladders swung over side, the period stained mahogany case with glazed top and front, fitted with scale below hull and ivorine plaque reading ''S.S. Lady Brenda, Owners Dawson Line Ltd., Cardiff; dimensions 325 x 48 x 24.3., Builders Craig, Taylor & Co. Ltd., Stockton on Tees'', 97 x 11 x 33in. (246 x 28 x 84cms) high; on an associated stained wood stand 37in. (94cms) high. Ship's Biography: Steam Cargo Ship of 397 tonnes, 325ft. overall length, beam of 48ft., originally launched in 1918 as the SS Maindy Dean for the Maindy Shipping Co. Ltd. (Jenkins, Richard & Evans, Cardiff), sold to Frederick Dawson Ltd., Newcastle in 1922 and then re-named Lady Brenda, (evidence of re-naming to hull, funnel and plaque), then sold to the Russian Merchant Navy in 1937 and again re-named SS Sukona, ending as victim of torpedo fire by a German aircraft just North West of Bear Island, September 13th 1942.
