John J*** Holmes (Contemporary) ''Kariad Racing Cicely in the Clyde, 1903'', signed; inscribed on a label verso, 60 x 90cms; 23 3/4 x 35 1/2in. NB Kariad was designed by G.L. Watson as a single-mast cutter but was converted to a yawl to help her handicap rating. However, her racing career was not a success and her owner had her scrapped in 1906. Cicely was a classic Fife-designed schooner built in 1902 by Inglis of Glasgow. In her first year afloat, she won every race she entered.
