† Charles Foot Tayler (fl.1818-1853) MINIATURE PORTRAITS OF A YOUNG GENTLEMAN WITH LONG SIDE-WHISKERS AND A LADY WEARING A BLUE LACE-TRIMMED DRESS inscribed verso with Artist's name, address '8 Oxford Row, Bath' and dated 1836 verso bodycolour on ivory 10 x 8cms; 4 x 3 1/4in. (a pair) NB Little is known of the origin of this artist prior to 1818, when he was awarded a silver medal by the Society of Arts. In 1820-1 he was living on the Isle of Wight and he settled in Bath from 1822, where he had a successful portrait practice at several addresses including Oxford Row, Barton Buildings and Gay Street. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1820 until his death. See illustration
