A collection of First World War ephemera relating to the service and loss of 763638 Private Ernest George Crawford, 1/28th London (Artists) Rifles, to include: lapel badge; portrait and group photographs; approximately forty postcards written to his wife, Mollie, with censor stamps and place names removed; a hand written letter of bereavement from his company commander to Mrs Crawford informing her that her husband was missing in action with little chance of him being a prisoner of war, dated Nov. 20th 1917; a letter from the Infantry Record Office confirming his death on 30th October 1917, in action on the field (later known to be Passchendaele), dated 17th Dec 1917; War and Victory medals; a letter from the War Office giving the whereabouts of Crawford's grave, along with further communications and photographs of his grave.
