A message from our Managing Director
A sensational start to the year here at Anderson & Garland.
Our Modern Art & Design Auction on Thursday 27th January included an original work of art by the street artist Banksy ‘The Merrivale Stable’. The pre-sale international media interest was enormous. On sale day, after a bidding battle on the telephones, it sold to an anonymous UK buyer, for over £1million pounds (inc fees). This smashed our previous in-house record and is the most expensive work of art ever sold in the North East. Moreover, it will probably be one of the most expensive works of art to be sold outside of London this year. Our motto ‘local service, international prices’ has never been more true.
We’ve already held 10 auctions this year, ranging from Musical instruments to Collectors’ Items. In early March, we launched our new Antique Costume and Textiles department, which is already proving very popular with our customers and a fantastic addition to A & G’s specialist portfolio.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting programme of auctions over the Spring/Summer period, with 19 sales before the end of August! We are welcoming entries to all of these. Please see our website for more details. If you would like a free, no obligation valuation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
21st Century living can be extremely busy, therefore, after a successful trial period and very positive customer feedback, we are pleased to announce that clients can now book face-to-face valuation appointments online via our website. We are also now booking virtual/video appointments via WhatsApp.
With the lifting of Covid restrictions, we are working towards the re-opening of Anderson & Garland Café on viewing days later in the Spring. We know how much many of you have missed this service, so watch this space.
As ever, I’d like to thank you all for your continued support.
