Q2 update

The weather is warming up and the summer auctions are well underway here at Anderson & Garland. After three successful specialist sales in June - Modern, Music and Collectors’ - we’re building up nicely to the highlight of the summer schedule: a stunning three day Fine auction, 19th – 21st July, comprising Country House & Fine Interiors, Silver, Jewellery, Watches, and Books. Fully illustrated catalogues are now live and online so enjoy browsing. Whilst these sales are now closed to new entries, we’re welcoming consignments to our Autumn auctions, details of which are in the accompanying diary.

In recent months we have been reviewing many of our business processes, primarily focusing on sustainability. After consultation with other members of SOFAA (Society of Fine Art Auctioneers) and as most of our bidders and buyers now use our website as their first port of call - we have taken the difficult decision to stop the production of our printed catalogues, and substantially enhance our digital offering. We know some of our clients do love to receive the hardcopy versions, so this is not a decision we have taken lightly. However, the additional investment made in other areas will benefit both sellers and buyers alike.

Earlier this year, we officially launched the Land & Property arm of the business, in partnership with award winning estate agent Gareth Jones. After a busy few months, A&G Land & Property Agents already has an impressive portfolio of properties for sale and under offer, from across the region. For more information, please contact Gareth in confidence on 0191 430 3025.

This quarter we have continued to grow our core Auction House team with the addition of Suni, who joins us as a porter. If you have a passion for antiques, fine art or the auction trade and would be interested in joining Anderson & Garland, we would like to hear from you.

In early July our valuers have been heading out and about to host a series of external valuation events under the banner of The Anderson & Garland Roadshow. The first took place in Berwick (4th July at The Maltings) and at Alnwick (5th July at The Hogs Head Inn) and we unearthed many treasures. The next will be in Durham (12th July at The Kingslodge). We hope these events will prove popular with clients new and old as more sweep around the region in the coming months.

Lastly, I’m delighted to announce that, at long last, our popular Cafe will be reopening on view days from August 1st, under the stewardship of Sue Bell. She’ll be offering a delicious selection of light snacks, cakes and pastries, along with freshlyground coffee and other tasty beverages. So many customers have come to me asking when the café was re-opening that I’ve lost count. Well, here it comes. Please give Sue your full support.

As ever, I’d like to thank you all for your continued support and custom. If you have any feedback on the service you receive from A&G or and suggestions on how we could improve our services even further in the future, please either leave us a review on Trustpilot or send me an email: info@andersonandgarland.com

Julian Thomson,
Managing Director.
